Course Rep Refreshers Stall

Course Rep Refreshers Stall

This year the Refreshers Fair is running from 10am-4pm on the 28th and 29th January. Those of you that attended the ED Advisory Committee Meetings will know that one problem course reps were encountering was the fact that students did not realise how successful reps can be at making change.

Consequently, we have asked for a stall in the Square on the 28th January so you can explain to students what you do! This should help with the more continuous promotion of the course rep system throughout the year. Volunteering will of course count towards accreditation.

I have limited sign- up to three people per hour session but if you are available please feel free to drop in and help out at any time. http://www.wejoinin.com/sheets/wrkld

Course Rep Facebook Group

Course Rep Facebook Group

Hopefully some of you are already aware that at the beginning of this week Dan set up a Course Rep facebook group. This is another way for the Student’s Union to communicate the latest developments in the Course Rep system. This is a fantastic opportunity for Course Reps to share good practice and some of the excellent work which you are all doing. You can also use this group to ask for help and support if you need it. Course Rep Mentoring: Dates

Course Rep Mentoring

You may remember me mentioning in the Course Rep Training at the beginning of the year that we were hoping to implement a course rep mentor scheme. Thank you to all those that registered your preliminary interest, you will receive more information about this in the New Year!

In February, after your exams we are going to be running focus groups so we gauge what people want from the new system. For those of you that were interested in being mentored we want to ask you what help and advice you would have found beneficial when you first became a rep? Also we want to know if you have any tips for training. Sign up is limited to 15 people per session.

Course Rep Mentoring: Focus groups next term

Course Rep Mentoring

You may remember me mentioning in the Course Rep Training at the beginning of the year that we were hoping to implement a course rep mentor scheme. Thank you to all those that registered your preliminary interest, you will receive more information about this in the New Year!

Unfortunately we have been very busy and consequently unable to get this started this term. However, although this means that it is too late for those of you wishing to be mentored it is not too late to get involved with the scheme. In February, after your exams we are going to be running focus groups so we gauge what people want from the new system. For those of you that were interested in being mentored we want to ask you what help and advice you would have found beneficial when you first became a rep? Also we want to know if you have any tips for training.

We will also be running another set of focus groups for those of you that wanted to be a course rep mentor. Again, these will be happening in February on a Wednesday (date to be confirmed) at 11.00 and 13.00. This will mainly be beneficial for first and second years as you will be able to mentor a student if you are re-elected next year. However, all input is welcome.

ED Advisory Committee Meetings

The ED Advisory Committees were held 5-7 /12/2012. There were a total of 6 sessions throughout the week, one for each college with two final sessions which anyone could attend. It was a chance for you to talk to other reps from your college and highlight any similar issues or concerns students across the college might have.  Below is a consolidated version of the notes made throughout the day, giving details of the common issues that tended to span across several departments and colleges.

Course Rep of the Week

Those of you that attended the ED Advisory Committee Meetings will know that one problem course reps were encountering was the fact that students did not realise how successful reps can be at making change. Consequently, we want to set up a ‘Course Rep of the week’. This will require you to email in with any successes you have had in the SSCs which I will then include in the newsletter. This will be great for your accreditation and we then aim to pass this on to your departments who can share this information with your students.
